LONDON, 16th June 2014
SKYTRAX announced that the 2014 World Airline Awards will be held in Wind Tunnel Q121, at the former Royal Aircraft Establishment as
part of Farnborough International Airshow on Tuesday 15th July 2014.
Opened in 1935, Wind Tunnel Q121 remains very much in its original condition. Aircraft from Spitfires to Concorde were tested in
these now, disused wind tunnels. The giant mahogany fan with 600 kg blades, vast 40 ft high return air duct and cathedral like test
preparation area permitted complete aircraft as well as large models, wing and fuselage sections and engines to be tested.
The Wind Tunnels are now being opened up for the first time to public view. ›› Read about the Wind Tunnels
