A large contingent from the airline attended the event, including Mr Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group CEO, Ms Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia and Ms Rafidah Aziz, Chairman of AirAsia X.
On the same day, AirAsia signed a firm order with Airbus for the purchase of 100 A321neo aircraft, and a few hours before the World Airline Awards ceremony AirAsia had flown an A320 into Farnborough Airshow complete with the latest livery to show their 8 years of consecutive wins at the Skytrax Awards.
Tony Fernandes recorded a live feed from the Awards, in which he said: “We just won world’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the eighth time, which is pretty damn cool. I want to thank all my staff who ensure that low-cost doesn’t mean low quality. Even though we’ve won this award eight times, we know we can be better, we want to improve our customer service, we want to improve talking to you .. we’ve got a lot of technology coming up, we’re also looking at our food, we’re also bringing wi-fi onboard.”

Commenting on the AirAsia success, Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: “it is a fabulous achievement for AirAsia to have won this award for 8 consecutive years, particularly as every year the world’s low-cost airline market becomes even more competitive. We congratulate them on this great success, and now look forward to seeing next year’s performance!”
