Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards ceremony
was held in Hamburg, at Aircraft Interiors EXPO |
 |
Aircraft Interiors Expo 2009 has been chosen as the venue for hosting the first live World Airline Awards ceremony.
Both Aircraft Interiors Expo and World Aircraft Awards are celebrating a decade of success and commitment to the
industry in 2009. The awards' organiser Skytrax was looking for an appropriate way to mark the 10 year milestone and
decided on an informal awards ceremony that will bring together key airline industry personnel from around the world.
This prestigious and highly coveted airline award scheme has never before been presented in person and Aircraft
Interiors Expo is looking forward to making history.
"This is a great occasion for us to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the World Airline Awards with this new awards
ceremony" said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax. "Since establishing the survey back in 1999, we have maintained very
strict guidelines for the modus-operandi of the project - striving to not only garner a truly worldwide audience, but
to operate a survey that is totally independent, with very transparent methodology. Our views about some airline
surveys are well-known, largely based upon the premise that many can be charged with being self-serving, or often too
restrictive in their outlook."
"The collaboration with Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg enables Skytrax to host the World Airline Awards at a venue
which is the global market leader for the world's aircraft interiors industry, and with clear synergies between the
two events," added Plaisted. "It provides the platform to publicly honour the winning airlines, whilst at the same
time delivering an Awards ceremony that is not sponsored or influenced by an third party - that concept remains of
paramount importance to us."
The 2009 World Airline Awards™ are based on the annual World Airline Survey by Skytrax, which is conducted between
August 2008 and March 2009. The Awards are recognised around the world, and renowned for being the only truly global,
Independent passenger survey of airline standards. The survey does not receive any outside or third-party sponsorship,
with all funding of survey costs coming from the Research Division of Skytrax.

The respect that the World Airline Awards achieve across the globe is well documented by the media, and well summed up
by Australian newspaper, The Age, who commented ...."Skytrax awards are highly prized in the travel industry. With
awards, it seems, importance depends very much on who's handing them out."
"It's a real privilege to be chosen to host the 2009 World Airline Awards. It reflects Aircraft Interiors Expo's
standing as the hub of the world's aircraft interiors industry as well as reinforcing Hamburg's prominence as a centre
for aviation excellence," said Katie Murphy, Exhibition Director for Aircraft Interiors Expo.
The 2009 World Airline Awards will be presented between 5.30 - 6.30pm on Wednesday 1st April 2009 and will form part
of an exhibitor and airline networking event being held by Reed Exhibitions to celebrate Aircraft Interiors Expo's
10th edition.
Invitations to attend the World Airline Awards ceremony will be sent out in February 2009. To guarantee your attendance at the Awards (airline industry & media), please
