Turkish Airlines wins the Best Airline in Southern Europe award for 2011

Turkish Airlines wins the Best Airline Southern Europe award for 2011

Turkish Airlines was named the Best Airline Southern Europe at the 2011 World Airline Awards, in a ceremony held in the French Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show.

The runners-up in this category are Aegean Airlines taking 2nd place in the category, ahead of Air Malta in 3rd position

Voted by over 18.8 million airline passengers from 100 different nationalities, the World Airline Awards are the most prestigious quality recognition of front-line product and service standards for the world airline industry. With 200 airlines featured, the awards measure customer satisfaction levels across 38 different items of airline front-line product and service.

	Turkish Airlines began 78 years ago with 5 airplanes and today has 169 (passenger and cargo) airplanes. It operates scheduled services to 139 international and 42 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 181 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The airline's main base is at Atatürk International Airport. Starting from April 1st, 2008, THY became one of the members of the world's largest airline alliance, namely, Star Alliance and committed to be Turkey's rising star.

	Aegean Airlines is the largest Greek airline by the total number of passengers carried. A Star Alliance member since June 2010, it operates scheduled and charter services from Athens and Thessaloniki to other major Greek destinations as well as to a number of European destinations. Its main base is Athens International Airport.
