TAM Airlines is named the Best
Airline in South America for 2011 |

TAM Airlines was named the Best Airline South America at the 2011 World Airline Awards,
in a ceremony held in the French Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show.
The runners-up in this Best Airline South America category are LAN Airlines
taking 2nd place in this category, ahead of Avianca.

Airline Awards are the most prestigious quality recognition of front-line product and service standards

TAM Airlines is Brazil's and Latin America's largest airline. It is based in the city of São Paulo, and
operates scheduled services to destinations within Brazil, as well as international flights to Europe and
other parts of North and South America. On August 13, 2010, TAM signed a non-binding agreement with
Chilean airline LAN Airlines to merge and create LATAM Airlines Group. The network of TAM Group covers
Brazil, Europe, North and South America. TAM Airlines maintains code-share agreements for international
destinations with Star Alliance partners, LAN Airlines, and PLUNA, and for domestic destinations with NHT
Linhas Aéreas and TRIP Linhas Aéreas.

LAN Airlines is based in Santiago, Chile. LAN is currently amongst the largest airlines in Latin America,
serving Latin America, United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Oceania, and Europe. It is a member of the
Oneworld airline alliance. LAN Airlines is the 49th oldest air carrier in the world from its foundation
date, however, it is the 10th oldest airline in operation today. Its main hub is Comodoro Arturo Merino
Benítez International Airport, Santiago, with hubs/focus cities at Ministro Pistarini International

Avianca has been the flag carrier airline of Colombia since 5 December 1919 when it was registered
initially under the name SCADTA. It is headquartered in Bogotá, D.C. with its hub at the El Dorado
International Airport. Avianca is the largest airline in Colombia. Avianca has merged with TACA but both
airlines will maintain their own identity and operate separately for the moment. In 2009 Avianca turned
90 (years) making it one of the world's oldest airlines still in operation. It is actually the oldest
continuously operating airline in the Western Hemisphere.
