Oneworld Alliance has been named the World's Best Airline Alliance at the 2010 World Airline Awards, that took place in Hamburg.

Commenting on the award to Oneworld, Mr Plaisted said: "this is a fantastic achievement for Oneworld to be named Best Alliance, displacing Star Alliance that had been a repeated winner in earlier years. The award for Best Alliance is built around an extensive survey of different airline alliance travellers across the world, and our key focus is to determine which alliance is serving it's customers in the most efficient manner. This is a clear recognition to the management behind Oneworld, have clearly show that best levels of service are being delivered. The World Airline Awards are known as 'The Passenger's Choice' underlining the fact that Oneworld are succeeding in satisfying the hardest critics, actual air travellers."

We’ll be working hard to retain this coveted title in the future, with two more top-ranking airlines joining our collection of the highest quality carriers from each region – in Russia’s leading domestic operator, S7 Airlines, boarding oneworld later this year and India’s leading carrier Kingfisher Airlines lining up to follow."

Oneworld member airlines that were honoured in the Awards included Cathay Pacific Airways (Best Transpacific Airline), Dragonair (World's best Regional Airline), Finnair (Best Airline North Europe), LAN Airlines a double-winner (Best Airline South America and also collecting the Staff Service Excellence Award for airlines in South America), Malev (Best Airline Eastern Europe), Qantas Airways was a double-winner (Best Premium Economy Class and Best Premium Economy Class seat). Potential Oneworld member Kingfisher Airlines, walked away with 3 awards (Best Airline India/Central Asia, Best Economy Class seats and Staff Service Excellence Award for airlines in India/Central Asia).

SKYTRAX 2010 WORLD AIRLINE AWARDS - the Passengers Choice Awards

Over 40 airlines from around the world assembled at the World Airline Awards in Hamburg  to receive their accolades. The award winners are selected by the airline industry's most important audience - it's customers.

More than 17.9 million air travellers from over 100 different nationalities took part in the 10 month survey, July 2009 to April 2010. The awards are respected and recognised around the world for being the only truly global, independent passenger survey of airline standards. The World Airline Awards were established in 1999, and are known across the globe as the Passengers Choice awards. The 2009/2010 Survey included over 200 airlines, from largest international airlines to domestic carriers.
